What are Somatic Exercises?
Each atom, molecule, cell, tissue, and bodily system in the human body consists of one thing: energy. The human body is an energetic field. Our body is composed of trillions of cells with receptor sites that constantly receive and transmit energy within us, akin to receiving food or water. Anatomy books describe the body's architecture through the skeletal, muscular, or nervous system, but we can also define the human body as an energy field. When we link our mental processing (mind) with our nervous system (body), we arrive at the Chakra System, the energy vortexes within each of us. "Chakra" originates from Sanskrit and translates to "wheel." Each chakra spins in a circular rhythm at its speed, funneling energy from the outside world into the body's energetic framework. It's where the physical and consciousness meet. These are sites on the body where we receive, absorb, and distribute life energies. Each chakra corresponds to a plexus in the body. Plexuses are networks of nerves, blood vessels, and hormone receptors designed to communicate with our organs chemically. 

Each chakra also corresponds with specific life issues and how we handle them. Life stressors such as illness, emotional turmoil, unhealthy dietary habits, and conflicts contribute to imbalances within the chakra system. Chakras correspond with specific aspects of an individual's life experience and behaviors. When these energy centers harmonize, individuals experience balance and well-being. However, when Chakras are blocked or overactive, it is believed that this imbalance can lead to various issues, often referred to as dis-e-a-s-e, which may manifest as physical ailments, emotional disturbances, or spiritual disconnect. 

The body naturally seeks balance, yet chakras fluctuate between blockage and overactivation. Sometimes, individuals experience both, showing traits of excess and deficiency. This experience mirrors the primal fight or flight response, adjusting energetic levels to confront threats. Over time, if left unattended, these defense mechanisms become ingrained in the chakra system (nervous system), operating unconsciously regardless of their effectiveness. 

Understanding the connection between the mind and body, how trapped emotions and negative thought patterns impact your health is essential for well-being, and the chakra system serves as a key entry point to this understanding.

People often use yoga, meditation, and other energy-based therapies to help balance and harmonize the chakras. These practices aim to facilitate the free flow of energy throughout the body, promoting overall health and vitality.
